What story would you like to explore?  What type/kind of story will you tell? What is the purpose or impact? I will be telling a personal story: that of my daughter’s journey with cancer. The purpose is for others to see the impact of past trauma on everyone involved and how it still impacts us all to this day.  What are the story elements? (Ohler) The Story Core: The Problem: My daughter was born with eye cancer. What did we go through (her and those who watched her)? What was the outcome? Does it ever stop? Transformation: This will be where we discuss what we went through with pictures, videos, voiceovers, and text.  Solution: She is cancer-free, but that does not mean that we are trauma-free. We all went through this as a family, and we ultimately became stronger and have a deeper connection to each other. Having this bond allows us to look back and know that we will be able to weather future storms. What approach will you take to mapping or developing your story?...

Lessons from Pine Point in Digital Storytelling: EDUC 5333 Blog 2

This week, in our Digital Storytelling class, we looked at digital stories others have created. I watched all of the examples provided, but the one that really drew me in was Pine Point by the National Film Board-Canada ( found here !). It drew me in right away with the animation, the music, and the visual representations of the words. The whole story had a nostalgic feel but then made you wonder about the people who had been there.   Hello to my education community! Let me introduce myself! My name is Liz Henderson. I am married to my high school sweetheart and have two beautiful daughters. I am an Oklahoma State University grad, and I’ve been working in education in some capacity since 2004. I started as a middle school math teacher and high school math teacher for summer school. During that time, I had my two children, which shaped how I taught. Then, I moved to my current district, where I taught Pre-k through 12th grade, all subjects, through personalized learning plans. Currently, I am the Intervention Supplemental Curriculum Specialist, a role that allows me to focus on supporting students with diverse learning needs. I am also working toward a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology. However, my family is my greatest achievement, so here is a picture of us at Disney World (with an extra friend; we brought her along this trip): I am currently taking a class on Digital Storytelling. For that class, we ...
